Hi, my name is Monika and I am the founder of Run Strong, Be Happy. I am a mom, work full time, run five to six times per week upwards of forty miles, meditate, eat a healthy and balanced pescatarian diet and love to travel. But it hasn’t always been like that.

I got married at 21, and I became a mother and a widow at 28. At 30 I left my country and everything dear to me to find a new beginning. At 36 I was diagnosed with cancer and battled through this terrifying disease. I feared for my life and the future of my child. I fought as hard as I could, staying only focused on the only possible outcome – to win.

The illness left my body weakened and my mindset changed forever. While I was undergoing surgeries and treatment, I visualized a happy life with my daughter. I thought about how great my future would be when I would be healthy again. I stayed positive the whole time even though it was near impossible.

10 years after my final treatment I ran my 1st half marathon with my daughter at my side. It was one of the most emotional days of my life. When I was crossing the finish line I was in tears from the overwhelming emotions. It felt like such a huge accomplishment and a turning point in my life.

Since that day I haven’t stopped running. I ran casually and did a few races. I got stronger, ran longer and enjoyed it more and more. Running also brought me peace of mind.

In 2022 I turned 50 years old. So far, I consider it to be one of the best years of my life. I never felt stronger, healthier and more beautiful. I feel happy, fulfilled and excited about what the future will bring. So far I have run 3 half-marathons in 3 consecutive months, the last one being my personal best at 1:43:06. Currently I am training for my first full marathon.

I am very excited for what is yet to come but I am even more excited to connect with you through my articles. This website is not about me. Its purpose is to share information that you may find helpful on your journey.

I hope that my story inspires you to notice all the blessings in your life. Do you believe that changing your perspective can bring you peace and happiness? “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” said Henry Ford. I know you can!
